Meet the Team: William

Let’s meet William, our Lead Developer.

Q & A

What is your role and what aspect of the game are you working on?

I am coordinating the entire project.  Each day I focus on a series of tickets through a project management system called Assembla which allows us to be as organized as possible without our remote team.  Recently, I have been coding a lot of engine and toolkit components when everything is moving forward smoothly.

Did any game(s) inspire you to shape any of the features or provide input in Imagine Nations? How so?

Overall, Imagine Nations is inspired by nearly every game I’ve played.  The art style and voxel back end from Minecraft, the RPG elements from the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, the RTS elements from Age of Empires and SimCity, and more.  The one thing I have always looked for in a game was something where it was autonomous and you weren’t just some hero.  A game where events did not wait for you act.

What game(s) influenced you the most? What impact did they have on you as a person today?

Probably going way back here, but what really got me into gaming was the old SSI AD&D Gold Box games.  I had done a series of games when floppy disks were still popular, but those AD&D games really hooked me in.  I remember switching to AOL and being able to play the original Neverwinter Nights, and I’d say those games led me into my love for RPGs to this day.

What is your favorite video game character?

One that I create in games like Elder Scrolls/Fallout.

What game(s) are you playing when you are not working hard?

Recently, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, a little Minecraft, and I’d finished Skyrim sometime back.  But rarely am I not working hard lately.

What is your favorite food and drink?

Pizza, and Long Island Iced Tea?  Does that count?

Any last words?

We’re making some great progress on the game, and I can’t wait until we can start unveiling some more content beyond the code.  March is going to be shaping up very nicely if we can stay on track as we have been.  I am very happy to be doing this project, and I have a fantastic team to work with here.  Looking forward to these next few years making this game a reality.
